Recent Updates

March 23rd, 2008 - Update by Cidolfas

  • More of your contributions have been added to the site; thanks to everyone who helps out! This update includes a pic of Red XIII from Dirge of Cerberus, a new link to a French wiki site, another fan flash, and a bunch of name origins.

March 1st, 2008 - Update by Cidolfas

  • I've conquered the backlog again! This includes some incredibly minor Name Origins updates, and some missing pictures from FF9, FF12, and FF12RW. The site for our affiliate FF Mux (link on the left) has also changed. More major changes will hopefully be forthcoming in March!

February 3rd, 2008 - Update by Rainent

  • All of the character pages have been updated with a new method for showing the characters' pictures. Hopefully this more modern method of resizeable thumbnails will prove to be a better solution to showing multiple pictures in one location. If there are any broken links or bugs, please email me or Cidolfas.

February 3rd, 2008 - Update by Cidolfas

  • Just telling you all that I've caught up with the backlog again (I'm giving Chris a bit of ramp-up time). It was exclusively Name Origins this time round, including a bunch of really interesting ones from FFTA items.
  • I've also added a new Fan Flash: Attack of the Black Mages 5! I'd seen this before, but another viewing put it over the top for me. It's pretty funny.

January 13th, 2008 - Update by Rainent

  • Hey everyone.
As Cidolfas previously stated , the Compendium has hired me as the new site maintainer. I will be making updates and posts under the alias 'Rainent' as to avoid any confusion. For those of you that care, a little background on me: I have been a Final Fantasy afficionado since I was about ten years old and have played through, in full, every game of the series excepting III, IV, TA, and X-2 (eleven doesn't count, does it? :p ). I am also a first-year student at the Rochester Institute of Technology majoring in Information Technology. I will be doing my best to maintain the high level of quality everyone has come to expect from the FF Compendium.

January 13th, 2008 - Update by Cidolfas

  • Well, I've gotten a lot of really great applications for the maintenance job, and I would have loved to hire everybody, but we've got only one spot. I am pleased to announce that Chris Duxbury will be our new maintainer. Please bear with us as we get up to speed with our new staff member.
  • Of course we've got more (whoever heard of an FFC update with just one entry?) I penned an article for the Final Fantasy Festival, which disappointingly seems to be dead in the water. In the meantime, I've added it to our Features page, so give it a look-see.

January 6th, 2008 - Update by Cidolfas

  • Harhar, I have conquered the evil e-mail backlog! Updates include a new PDF FF6 guide (I thought that was interesting), more pics for FF12RW, Odin pics from FF11, a few new character pics from FF8, and the usual crossover and name origin tweaks.
  • Remember when I said the Full Index was too much trouble to keep going? Sometimes being a programmer comes in handy. 8-) The Full Index is back, and this time it's going to be automatically updated for you. FYI, there are more than 2,100 definitions in there! O_o Let me know if you catch something I missed!

January 1st, 2008 - Update by Cidolfas

  • One huge update deserves another: We now have full coverage of FFXII: Revenant Wings! As usual, that means that the site is now rife with spoilers for it, so you've been warned! 8-) I'm sure I'm missing some things (or got them wrong), so send any corrections or additions to me.
  • Thanks very much to PapillonReel for his bestiary (soon to be up on GameFAQs) - it was invaluable to help me get my update out!
  • The in-game images will come in due course; a correspondent is ripping the sprites for me, so don't worry about sending them in just yet.
  • In the course of the update I rejigged a few pages, including adding two new classes to the Jobs page and reorganizing the Glossary.
  • Sorry, the e-mail backlog has suffered due to the big update, but I will be getting to it shortly.
  • The job offer is still open! I'll be making my decision in about two weeks or so, so send in your info before then!
  • I still have a few more aces up my sleeve (though not quite as big as the previous updates) so keep yer eyes peeled!

December 16th, 2007 - Update by Cidolfas

  • Say hello to the new FFCompendium! A huge thanks goes to PanamaJack for making this beautiful new layout. It's not only nicer, it's also far easier to edit, meaning I don't have to keep relying on him to do so. 8-) As with all big updates, there may be some broken links around, so please contact me if you see any!
  • We've gotten a brand-spanking-new Google Custom Search up top, which is far more useful than the old Fluid Dynamic Search (which didn't even work with the new server). Again, let me know if you see any problems.
  • Along with the new layout has come some site pruning. I've gotten rid of the now-defunct Bestiary page, much as it pains me... unfortunately, Lord Skylark has still not surfaced. I've also removed the Fan Art, Fanfic, Full Index, Gallery, and Site Map pages, as they all were either too much work to keep updated, or I didn't feel they matched with the theme of the site.
  • To celebrate the new layout, there's now an official job opening at the FFCompendium. Unlike previous ones, this one actually pays real money (it's even better than Gil). If you think you might be a good match, feel free to apply!
  • Updated the FFXI Dancer and Scholar pages (thanks to David Hannah). Still missing some info though!
  • New FF12 Name Origins.
  • Added an image of the Cargo Ship from FF7, courtesy of John Meckem from Final Fantasy Kingdom.
  • New Ex-Crossover for FF5 Advance.

November 20th, 2007 - Update by Cidolfas

  • On December 18, 1987, Final Fantasy was released in Japan. It's its twentieth birthday, and to celebrate, several webmasters have gotten together to create Final Fantasy Festival: Natalis Crystalis. Feel free to contribute your own information and retrospects! I will be contributing some content to it as well, so check back if you're interested. 8-)

November 17th, 2007 - Update by Cidolfas

  • Well, our server move is complete! I've finally conquered my e-mail backlog, which is a start. 8-) There are still more things in the pipeline though.
  • Added the usual stuff to Name Origins and Crossovers, and a few corrections here and there.
  • Added some preliminary info on FF11's Dancer and Scholar jobs.
  • The Squaresoft Repository is back online and in Wiki format, so go check it out!
  • Added a link to on the FF11 page - a great page for maps.
  • Added an image of De Nam from FFCC; thanks to Aiffe.

October 28th, 2007 - Update by Cidolfas

  • Just reminding everyone that I'm still alive. I did a quick update a week or so ago to get up to date on my e-mail backlog, so the usual additions to Crossovers, Name Origins, and FF12 Characters have been done. Nothing truly major though.
  • There's a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes, so please be patient while it gets done!

August 19th, 2007 - Update by Cidolfas

  • More pictures from FF12 for you; thanks to Sami Hietanen and Kareem Issa! We're getting close to finishing these. 8-)
  • A few desultory crossovers and whatnot. I'd never actually realized that Kefka and Sephiroth shared a special move in their final forms. 8-)

August 3rd, 2007 - Update by Cidolfas

  • The backlog has been conquered! All the updates that haven't been made since March have finally been made. -_- We still have a boatload of new stuff we need to add, but at least your e-mails have finally been dealt with. Some of the updates include:
  • A slough of FF11 images, especially items!
  • New hi-res maps for FF6, including the new bonus dungeons.
  • Better images for a bunch of summons, including new art from FF Tactics.
  • Release dates have been updated.
  • Images of Xu (FF8), Venat (FF12), Zaon (FF10), and the cast from FF: Legend of the Crystal.
  • Name Origins and crossovers slightly updated.
  • Thanks to everyone who wrote in!

June 26th, 2007 - Update by Ianas

This is Ianas signing in, the new refactoring staff member, welcoming everyone to FFCompendium. I hope to be able to keep this place in its top position among Final Fantasy fan sites.
    More to come, later!
