In 1977, Advanced Dungeons & Dragons introduced Bahamut, the platinum dragon, God of all Good Dragons. This characterization carries on today in Final Fantasy. The black-scaled King of Dragons is nearly always one of the most powerful summons. His primary attack, "Mega Flare", does non-elemental damage. Generally, he is one of the most difficult monsters to beat in order to get him to join you. In FF1, he appeared as a non-summonable character, who upgraded your class if you gave him the Rat's Tail item. In FF4, he was the God of Summons. In FF7, he had three different forms: Bahamut looked similar to his previous incarnations; Neo Bahamut was red with four wings; Bahamut ZERO was silvery-black, had six wings, and launched a humongous attack from space (their untranslated names come from Japanese fighter planes). He's such a popular character that he merited his own strategy/RPG game for SNES - Bahamut Lagoon.
