October 27, 2001
- Well, we had to move unexpectedly. ^^; Chances are you weren't able to get to this page before October 29th at least; this is due to something called DNS propagation. 8-) Anyway, we are back, and I do indeed have some updates for you, although not as many as I planned because of the time constraint. *^_^*
- First off, you will notice that at the top of every page is now a button linking to a PayPal donation page. Why? Well, my freeloading days are over. ^^; The FF Compendium got too big for RPGClassics, and now I'm on my own server. Which means I have to pay for it somehow. As an incentive, anyone who donates $5 or more (or anyone who contributes in a meaningful way to the site) can now get an @ffcompendium.com forwarding e-mail address! This also goes retroactively, by the way - if you sent me something that I used in the site, please contact me if you wish to have an @ffcompendium.com forwarding e-mail address. 8-) Note that this isn't its own POP box, but can redirect e-mail sent there to an existing address.
- On that note, my e-mail has also changed to webmaster@ffcompendium.com . The other one still works, but this one's more professional. 8-) Now for the actual updates:
- A huge thanks goes out to Marek 14 - he sent me a bunch of high-quality screenshots from FF9, which are now residing in the Character, Summon, and Transportation pages.
- Four new fanfics, by Weiila, Archone, Starstorm, and SilverKnight.
- A new Famous Moment from FF8, requested a few times. Someone (unfortunately I don't remember who) actually sent me the pic, and it was sitting on my computer for months before I remembered it. ^^; Sorry!
- Er, that's about it for now. ^^; Work progresses!
October 21, 2001
- Very sorry for the lack of updates. Real Life has got me tied up. ^^; Before we start, I did (finally!) update the Name Origins page. It's starting to get extremely bulky and unwieldy; I'm looking into a way to expand it at the moment. Same for the Misc. Crossovers page.
- Two new fanart pics by Red XIII.
- The MP3 Archives have been down for several weeks or months; I dunno how long. 8-) I took them down for real now, and good riddance. O_o They're not the point of this site, anyway.
- FF: The Spirits Within DVD is coming out on the 23rd. This is a great opportunity for anyone with a DVD drive (read: not me) and the DVD to let me know and get some screenshots for me! ^^;
- OK, now the site announcements. Right now, the character and Summon/Monster pics have been moved to other servers because I'm exceeding my bandwidth right now. ^^; The pages should still show up properly for all you folks.
- At the beginning of November, the FF Compendium will be moving to its own server, with three times the bandwidth capacity of this one. You may be unable to access the site for a day or so. There may be a few more complications, so check back here around then. 8-) Thanks for your patience.
September 23, 2001
- I've finished FF9 and updated the character, story, crossover, etc. information. Have fun. 8-) I've also added my DexDrive save to the Help Wanted section to help anyone interested in snapping screenshots for me.
- Two new soundtracks slated to be out in October.
- A few new Name Origins.
- Three new FF9 MIDIs courtesy of VG Music.
- Re-added the Ashura art pic from FF4, which had mysteriously disappeared.
September 9, 2001
- New fanfiction by Weiila and a new chapter in PuPu's Saga.
- New art of Gestahl from FF6. You can actually see the whole thing this time. 8-)
- Fixed up the link page and added a new link to The Dream Oath.
- Some new Name Origins updates as well.
- I figured out the EGM thingy... the site did appear in the September issue of the magazine (which is technically the October issue, but it comes out in early September, so... er, whatever.) It didn't appear in the August issue, though. The Name Origins page was the one linked. Thanks again!
- The FFC has gone over its bandwidth yet again. This means that two folders (probably "chara" and "EspMon") will be relegated to a secondary server. So for all those who use external links to this site... sorry. ^^;
- I tried using my emulator to play FF8 and FF9 and was sadly rebuked by it - no go. So I re-extend my request for help from anyone who has the PC version of FF8, and possibly to those hallowed few who have video capture cards for use with FF9. ^^; If anyone has these and would like to help out the site, please let me know!
- I know the FF8 and 9 story/character pages have some mistakes (a patient correspondent has been pointing them out to me on a regular basis), but I'm in the midst of replaying them for this specific purpose, and when I'm done I'll re-upload my findings. The same correspondent let me know that Kiros's last name is actually Seagill, not Seagul. Oops. ^^;
- Rant over for today, I guess.
August 29, 2001
- Here it is, the huge FF7 update! Over 100 new pictures have been added. Basically every character now has an in-game screenshot, as well as basically every monster. Also added a slew of Famous Moments, and fixed up the character and story pages so they're more or less 100% accurate. I have a few more things I'd like to snap, but I'll do them for the next update.
- Now someone tells me the FF Compendium has appeared in the September version of EGM as well? If this isn't confusion or hyperbole, I'd appreciate a scan of whichever page the link appears on in either issue. ^^;
- Perhaps in light of that, added the FFX OST. Doubtless when it comes out I'll end up changing some track names to reflect the translated version.
- Buncha more Name Origins updates as well.
August 26, 2001
- New affiliate: The Squaresoft Repository. If you enjoy the Name Origins page on this site, I highly recommend you take in this new website, which has info on the FF, SaGa, and Chrono series as well as Xenogears, and gives a wider swath of information on the various mythological entities and names you'll see in the games. It's just starting up, but it looks quite promising. 8-)
- While on the subject, the RPG Compendium has disappeared again. This has gone on for a bit too long for my tastes, so I've taken it off the affiliates list. If it ever starts up again, please let me know.
- New fanart by HellifIknow! ...No, really, that's his handle. I do know who he is. I mean... ah, you know what I mean...
- New name origins; some taken from the new affiliate. Two new ones by Ultima Mage Dyne refer to Dyne and Quetzacoatl.
- Big thanks to Electronic Gaming Monthly! The FF Compendium was featured as a link in their FFX coverage in the August issue (the one with the 1 in 8 special edition Amano cover). If anyone has a scan of the page I'll post it here, but I haven't been able to get a hold of one yet. ^^;
- I am still plowing through FF7... just finished Disc 1. ^^; I've got 80 images so far! Keep your hats on!
August 12, 2001
- The low-res site has gone through what I hope is the last URL change; all the HTML pages have been changed to SHTML pages. Only the names have changed, no content, so even the oldest browsers shouldn't have a problem with them. If they do, please let me know. This should ensure that from now on, the amount of broken links after updates will be drastically lowered. In a related note, those of you entering from Yahoo/Google searches kept getting the 404 Missing page; now you should be redirected to the proper place instead.
- Added lyrics to the FF: Spirits Within soundtrack; thanks to Excalibur for them!
- As you can see, I truncated the update page and stuffed the rest of them into an update archives page. When I couldn't open it in Notepad any more, I knew it was getting a tad too big. 8-)
- Fixed up the credits page a bit; added some credits that should have been there long ago, and fixed one or two links.
- New fanfics by Weiila (Rydia and Edge) and Mazrim Taim (The Kefka Project).
- Added the "Critter Tripper Fritter" FF5 MIDI, sent to me by Joseph Witham again. Thanks!
- A correction on the FF7 front, caught by me: Don Corneo's second henchman is named Scotch, not Hotch. You'd think someone else would have noticed. ^^; I'm currently going through FF7 via emulator and snapping pics for characters, monsters, and Famous Moments, so look for that in a week or two.
- The requisite Name Origins update for this week is brought to you by WTG3@aol.com, who talks about Tantalus, Main Gauche, and Oeilvert.
August 7, 2001
- The FF9 Story is up; sorry for the wait. It's the biggest so far, so it took longer. ^^; Not as much backstory, but way more plot. I haven't run this through anyone for quality assurance yet, so send me any corrections/additions you have.
- Added a link on the navbar to "About Me", my RPGClassics newly-expanded bio page, with links to all my projects.
- More Name Origins corrections, including stuff about Laguna, Cinna, and the Japanese knives in the series.
- New link, FFWorld.com. Plus I've taken out my own links, since they're on the "About Me" page now.
- Renamed the Feedback page to Feedback/Help Wanted, where I now document any and all things that you, the viewers, can do for me. 8-)
- All the teething problems should be fixed by now (gallery/archives working, All Characters page links working, etc.) Let me know if there are any more problems.
August 1, 2001
- Sorry for the delay, but I've been working on a huge update! Here are the salient points I've got for you:
- FFX has been released for PS2, and FFII has been re-released for WonderSwan Color. Both only in Japan, so not much info there right now. I did manage to get face shots for the playable characters for FF2, though. Also have a new art pic of Firion. If anyone finds more WSC pics (for either FF1 or 2) give me a holler. Yes, I know FF2 was released in March, but I must have missed the update at The GIA. ^^; I also added the new logos for FF1, 2, and 10 into the logo comparison pic in the Misc. Crossovers page.
- Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within has been released as well. Full character info, as well as cast and credits, is available, but the only character pics I could find were courtesy of RPGamer and are concept art (albeit extremely detailed) of proposed action figures of the four main characters, so that explains their weird poses. ^^;
- Added full stories for all the games, plus the movie! (The Anime and Zodiac Brave Story pages have been swallowed up into this category.) Thanks to everyone on the FFC and RPGC boards, and a big thanks to Macc Maverick for ironing out the bugs in them. Let me know if there's still anything wrong with them.
- Added a "browse by game/other" category wherein each game (plus the anime and movie) now has its own "hub" page. You can see the logo, release dates, small blurb, and links to the character, place, and story pages, as well as links to any game help and soundtracks related to the item.
- The site now has its own server! Instead of sharing it with other files, that is. This means that the ffcompendium.com domain name now points *directly* to the server instead of using redirects. It also means you can now type in "http://www.ffcompendium.com/filename" and get what you want faster! Sorry if you were unable to access the site for a few hours after the update; it takes a while to take effect. ^^; The galleries and archives were down for a few days as well.
- 10 new FF9 MIDIs and one new FF3 MIDI, courtesy of VG Music.
- New fanart by Kitt, and a new fanfic by Paln!
- New affiliate, Re-DecK's Chocobo Stables. RPG Compendium *is* still around; it apparently had server problems which it's working to fix.
- Added the US cover for the FF8 Original Sound Version in the high-res site.
- Finally added a note in the Name Origins page that Safer Sephiroth should probably be translated as Seraph Sephiroth. Some other Name Origins updates as well, and a note added to the In-Series Crossovers page.
- That should be enough for now, no? 8-)
July 1, 2001
- Final Fantasy Chronicles has been released in the US and is now featured on the Game Releases page.
- Several new fanfics grace the fanfic page. Also I've taken out the ratings 'cause I don't think that's very fair. ^^;
- PafekutoCeII@aol.com let me know that I had mistakenly labeled Black Waltz 2 as Black Waltz 3 in the FF9 Characters picture section. Thanks!
June 28, 2001
- Sorry for the huge lack of updates, but here goes nothing! 8-)
- The fan art section has been added. Unfortunately Ms. Saturn is out of it... until I get a new correspondent, you'll just have to send them to me. Be nice. 8-)
- Added a new soundtrack, for the FF movie. Also added a second pic for the FF4 Piano Collections since it was re-released.
- Tons of Name Origin additions!
- I've been told a few times that the descriptions of Wedge and Biggs in FF7 were switched. They're correct now. ^^;
- Three new FF3 MIDIs, thanks to Joseph Witham.
- Once the FF movie comes out I'll be adding another section, natch. 8-)
June 5, 2001
- An addition/edit to the Name Origins page regarding Excalibur.
- The Astos art pic I had up was not, in fact, a picture of Astos! Thanks to Michael Izzi for pointing that out.
- I was browsing round a Barnes & Nobles in New York and came across the FF9 art book. Looks very nice indeed! I'd love to get my grubby hands on some scans (especially some of the item/weapon pics), so if you happen to have it and a scanner, give me a ring!
May 18, 2001
- A new fanfic, "Oneesama E", by Morgaine MacLir.
- Four new FF9 MIDIs and one new FF3j MIDI.
- A few additions to the Name Origins page, including Orlandu, and notes on Typhoon and Kain.
- Thanks to JemaK for pointing out that the music pages in the high-res site were broken! They're back up now. ^^;
May 14, 2001
- The fanfic section is finally up! It's a small start, but give it time. 8-) If anyone wants to submit anything, let Mazrim Taim or Mr. Saturn know! And of course we still want a fan art section, so talk to Ms. Saturn.
- New affiliate: SquareAmp, a site which I think has a LOT of potential.
- Jeff Megane pointed out that I'm missing the fight where Vormav sics a bunch of thieves on Ramza and co. at the start of the second chapter of the Zodiac Brave Story. Thanks!
May 7, 2001
- We've moved again, this time to http://s3.rpgclassics.com/ffcompendium/ . Confusing, no? Again, the ffcompendium.com address will always work. I don't think any links should be broken this time round.
- New links, to FF Mirage and 8-Bit Theater.
May 2, 2001
- Like the new high-res look? Love it, man! The brand new DHTML menu is courtesy of DynamicDrive.com and the layout has been changed to reflect the new RPGClassics site. If there are any broken links, please let me know.
- I changed the main page back to the old style, which was really much more useful. ^^;
- After being pointed out, I changed the references to all summoned beasts as Espers and just let them be called Summons. Espers are really only references to Summons from FF6.
- Added an art pic of Gordon from FF2.
- Several new Famous Moments from FF4 as well!
April 22, 2001
- Well, the galleries are back up, thanks to the diligent work of Merlin and the Black Ninja (sounds mysterious, no?) Enjoy! I *think* all the links have been fixed, but if you catch any, be sure to e-mail me.
April 18, 2001
- Teething problems are still going on. In case you haven't noticed, the FFC has moved to its own server, at http://s2.rpgclassics.com/ . I recommend you use the ffcompendium.com URL to reach it, though, as it'll always point to the correct place. There are gonna be a few broken links (mainly for places outside the FFC) for a little while as I have to redesign the site. ^^; For starters, the galleries and archives are down and I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to get them back up at all. 8-\ But I'm eventually going to work on a new high-res layout, so when we're back for good we'll be better than ever. 8-) Sorry for the inconvenience.
April 12, 2001
- Well, RPGClassics has gone over to new hands. I'm still here, as you can see. And better than ever, as we now have a new EZBoard messageboard! The shrines in Game Help are currently down, but will be back up eventually. Sorry for the teething troubles. ^^;
- In other news, Demiforce Parodius, the translators of FF2, have released a patch for FF1+2, the cartridge with the first two games in the series included. You can now emulate it on your computer.
March 29, 2001
- As you can see, I've redone the main page to include recent updates on it, and relegated the links to sections to the bottom of the page. Please let me know if you preferred the other way. 8-)
- Calling all fan artists and fanfic writers! After much consideration, I've decided to branch out into a new section. The upcoming FanCompendium will be moderated by a fellow RPGC staffer, Zero. He's agreed to receive any fan art and fanfics you write, sort them, and post them in the new section. Get your stuff up here by sending them to him. Once we get a decent start, the new section will launch!
- Another three new FF9 MIDIs, including Pandemonium.
- Two more FF4 art pics, which are really just bigger versions of the ones I already have for Palom&Porom, and Rydia.
March 11, 2001
- We've hit 50,000! One big update and some minor ones for the occasion.
- A new affiliate: FFRadio.net! That also means that there's a new option to open a radio pop-up, which lets you browse the FF Compendium while listening to FFRadio's great tracklist of Squaresoft tunes. Enjoy!
- Redid the front page a bit. Hope it's a bit more readable now.
- An art piece of Zorn and Thorn (been a while since I got it, but I was waiting for something which never came...), and a few more from FF4.
- Three new FF9 MIDIs, including Zidane's Theme.
- I'm currently browsing around trying to find a JavaScript expert to help me with a few thorny problems with the high-res site; I hope to end up with a format that's much easier to navigate. Till then, enjoy!
February 13, 2001
- A great thanks to Rirse and vicariously to RPGFan for five new FF9 Amano art pieces (of Garland, Kuja, Necron, Brahne, and Beatrix) as well as a battle pic of Ozma. Now we're talking!
February 10, 2001
- Added four more soundtracks to the Music page: three new ones, plus Nora Stevens (the Impresaria of the Opera House) sent me the track listing to one of the FF Anime soundtracks.
- Added one more Famous Moment from FF6, by request.
February 4, 2001
- Lots of minor updates and corrections, thanks to the vigilance and sheer bloody-mindedness of my correspondents. 8-) JC Carleski and 1WFeathy added to the Name Origins page, Jason R. Mills gave a tip about a secret track on the FF7 Reunion CD, and Marek 14 contributed a whole bunch of things, mostly on the Magic/Ability and Summon pages, but sprinklings throughout the site. Enjoy!
- Added two FF9 Famous Moments. Also switched around the Famous Moment format (getting too cramped) to instead show linked thumbnails.
January 29, 2001
- Shinryuu's made good on her promise, and the result is a bunch more item pics. Ever wondered what a Bomb Spirit looked like? Go check 'em out. 8-)
- And I've managed to procure a picture of Necron from FF9; he's in the Monsters section.
January 25, 2001
- Added 17 new MIDIs which I nabbed from The Northern Crater, which I also added to the links page. Great site!
- The long-thought-dead Shinryuu's Lair has been back for a while, much to my consternation. ^^; For those who don't know, Shinryuu provided all the art scans of characters and Summons from FF1-5, and all the item scans. Plus she says she might have more stuff on the way! Anyway, she's back on the links and credited wherever necessary.
January 23, 2001
- Say hello to our very own www.ffcompendium.com! Now getting there is even easier! There's currently a splash page which disappears immediately using JavaScript, but I'm working on that. ^^;
January 17, 2001
- I'd like to thank and welcome Josh Lurie, who's decided to help me with title pictures for the high-res site. He's already sent me two, for the Transportation and Species sections. Hopefully more will be forthcoming. Thanks!
- I've been told that Legend of Mana has some FF crossovers, but I've never played it myself, nor have I seen screenshots of the crossovers. I'd like someone to verify this if possible?
January 9, 2001
- A bit of catching up. Finally added the FF1 re-release on the Bandai WonderSwan to the Release Info page.
- Added two new FF9 MIDIs, and identified the two unknowns.
- Added (after a LOOONG time) a new Famous Moment from FF5. I really have to start playing through these things again...
December 28, 2000
- A bunch of little updates of cool stuff: in the Misc. Crossovers, In-Series Crossovers, and Name Origins pages; and a few more MIDIS (including the great Hunter Chance and Not Alone from FF9).
- Fixed up the links page a bit; added some stuff from my own repertoire.
December 21, 2000
- Two more FF9 MIDIs, and one more Misc Crossover: from Star Wars to FF9.
December 12, 2000
- Added a few more MIDIs (7 from FF9, and one from 7 and 8 each).
- Updated the FF9 Minor Characters section, which is now ACCURATE. 8-) Also a minor update to the In-Series Crossover page.
December 5, 2000
- I've added five more MIDIs from FF2 and 3. Thanks goes to josephwitham@ffcompendium.com for submitting them! He also corrected an error on the FF1+2 Soundtrack page. Because of that, I was also able to update the In-Series Crossover page by pinpointing which FF3 theme was heard in FF9.
- On that track, added tiny zip files for the FF2 and FF3 MIDIs.
- Added a new item in the Misc. Crossovers page - would you believe FF9 has a Parasite Eve reference in it?
- Updated the Name Origins page, thanks to Nora Stevens.
December 3, 2000
- I've started an experimental message board on the FF Compendium. You can post all kinds of things there; I'd especially like to hear comments, questions, and ideas about the site, but you can post anything Final Fantasy-related and I'll check it regularly. Hopefully this will get more people to open up!
- Another huge change: For those of you viewing the high-res site, you can now choose between versions with music and no music! Thanks to a little snooping in the Javascript reference site, that is. ^^;
November 30, 2000
- Super-major update! Almost every section of the site has been revamped in some way. The major change, of course, is the introduction of material from FF9. To that end I've added no less than 125 new pictures and 42 new MIDIs to the site, totalling almost 3 MB! I've also added the American Tokyopop FF9 soundtrack to the Music page. FF9 has not one but two character pages; all the really minor characters (and there are a LOT of them) have been relegated to the FF9 Minor Character page. Note that there are many FF9 spoilers in the site now; you've been warned!
- Other stuff: The Art page has been expanded to include Summon and Monster art, and has been moved from the character section to have its own section.
- In the character, job, Summon, and monster pages, I've gotten rid of the annoying "Click here for pictures" business and put the links directly onto the names.
- The FF Tactics Crossover page has been renamed In-Series Crossovers, and a slew of references from FF9 have been added to it.
- The Magic page has been renamed Magic/Abilities and the contents now reflect that.
- All links to music themes in the character pages have been snuffed. They're way too hard to keep track of. If you want the music, go to the music section, OK?
- Princess Artemis has sent me a few new pics from FF7 as well, so look for those.
- Enjoy!
November 27, 2000
- Sorry for the inconvenience, folks. RPGC got shut down temporarily because of the volume of traffic it was generating! We're up for good now, hopefully. In other news, I've finished FF9 and am working on integrating it into the site. Look for a super-major update within the next week or two.
November 14, 2000
- Been busy, yep. FF9 was released today! Over the next month or so I'll be dedicating my spare time to playing it and updating the website, which means an almost total overhaul. Hopefully it'll be done by the new year. Till then!
October 11, 2000
- Added an entry for Barret in the Name Origins page, thanks to an e-mail I received from Jeffrey Goebeler.
- Added one more affiliate, the Final Fantasy OSG. I decided to put the affiliates in their own section and add them to the navigational parts of the site. Enjoy them, friends!
October 10, 2000
- Added a new bit of info to the Misc. page, given in by Scavenger 382, webmaster of the RPG Compendium, regarding the Moai.
- Shinryuu's Lair seems to have completely gone down, so I've taken it off the main page.
- However, I've found a replacement... I've decided to become an affiliate with the aforementioned RPG Compendium. It's a fairly interesting site with news, media, and a bunch of interesting little goodies.
October 1, 2000
- Added the new FF1 logo (from the upcoming FF1-3 release on Bandai's Color WonderSwan) to the logo picture on the Misc. Crossovers page.
- Slightly updated the Name Origins page.
September 26, 2000
- Added the FF9 soundtrack, the single "Memories of Life" from FF9 to the music database, plus the brand-spanking new mix album "Best Of Final Fantasy: 1994-1999". FF9 is coming out middle of next month, so I hope it to be fully integrated into the site by beginning/middle of December (I have to play it through first).
- I need screen captures for Famous Moments and characters from FF7 and 8, but I don't have the PC versions for either of them. If you'd be willing to capture them for me, please E-mail me.
September 18, 2000
- Yes, still around. I've uploaded two MP3s from FFMQ to a GeoCities account; they're 4 Meg each and you can access the directory page from the music section. Hopefully they won't get deleted due to policy. ^^; I AM NOT uploading any more MP3s... besides for not having the room, that's just not what this site is about. DO NOT e-mail me requesting MP3s!
August 29, 2000
- The SPC zip files are temporarily offline while we sort out some server problems (we need some more space). They'll be up again as soon as this is solved.
- One hour later: Me and my big mouth. OK, the problem's solved. And they forgot to tell me about it. >_< So I spent an hour re-uploading the zips, hope you're happy. 8-)
August 13, 2000
- Added one more Famous Moment: finally got a pic of Squall's "moron" line.
- Added crossovers from Vagrant Story in the Misc. Crossovers section.
- Redid the Release Info a bit, seeing as all the notes were getting a bit too much. Also added FF7 International and FF1-2 (Famicom).
August 2, 2000
- Yes, it's here! Welcome to the brand-new high-res Final Fantasy Compendium! Here's what the new version of the site features:
- Dark background picture instead of plain white
- Title pics and unique background MIDI for every single HTML page
- JavaScript drop boxes instead of frames or links
- Pictorial Next/Previous arrows instead of text links
The old, Bare Bones site is still functioning and will be updated at the same time as the high-res site, for those of you who enjoyed the ease of viewing and downloading. The site URL (http://www.rpgclassics.com/ffcompendium/) now leads to a splash page with links to both versions of the site, and a new logo animation.
- A big thanks and a welcome go to Hiei who's decided to help me with the title graphics for the site. The vast majority of the title pics are currently done by me (using Microsoft Word and Paint, believe it or not), and many of them look kind of forced. We'll slowly replace my pics with Hiei's pics over time - maybe only one or two a week. His only current work is the Anime Info and Anime Character pages, but more will be added!
- In both versions of the site, I've split the gallery page into two: one for pictures and one for music.
- Finally, due to pressure from the powers that be, I've deleted most of the FAQs from the Game Help section. If you still want them, you can check GameFAQs for them. Instead, there's basically just links to the respective shrines, and to the world maps. A few FAQs which I deemed contained information not in the shrines still made it through, though. All the information you need should usually be in the shrines, so don't worry overly much.
- Oh, and (wouldn't you believe it) another Famous Moment has been added. Sephiroth's burning scene from FF7. Looks like people have finally found something to tell me! 8-) Speaking of which, there's bound to be some broken links in all this moving and bustle... please let me know about them!
- That's it for now. Sit back and enjoy!
July 23, 2000
- There's been a major behind-the-scenes overhaul in the site directory layout. You won't see any difference at all (hopefully; tell me if I missed any broken links) but the current layout is far more conducive to the high-res site, which is indeed being created. Basically I eliminated all HTML pages from the gallery folders.
- I've also changed the name of the Game Innovations page to Series Evolution, which makes much more sense.
- Added (believe it or not) another Famous Moment, this one from me although almost nobody knows about it. 8-) It's from FF6.
- Thanks goes to Zeodarkness for pointing out a glaring omission in the Species page - the Lufenish from FF1.
July 19, 2000
- Yet another Famous Moment: Squall and Rinoa's first embrace in FF8.
July 16, 2000
- One more Famous Moment: Garland's "I'll knock you all down!" from FF1.
July 13, 2000
- Added a new "Name Origins" page! Based on the "Final Fantasy Name Origins" document by Mark Rosa, with FF7 names included by Moritz Summet. It's very interesting; check it out! ^^;
July 12, 2000
- Added a new "character art" page in the Characters section. It's a page which only consists of links to character art, organized by game.
July 7, 2000
- Final Fantasy IX has been released in Japan! It'll be a while till it reaches our shores, though, and I refuse to spoil it for myself by researching it ahead of time. You'll just have to wait.
- Changed the logo so it's now clearer, and the kana underneath says "Final Fantasy Compendium" instead of "Final Fantasy".
- Added the Opera House to the Famous Moments section.
July 4, 2000
- First major update in a while; I'm getting slow. 8-) Don't worry, FF9's coming up.
- The FF Compendium's reached 10,000 unique hits! To celebrate, I've added the SPC/NSF Archive! All the original music is now available and they've been added into the soundtrack HTML pages, besides having their own archive in the Galleries section. I've also added several MIDIs (most from FF7).
- Added one more Famous Moment from FF1.
June 19, 2000
- Still alive! Just added the FF8 world map... I'm working on adding SPCs and NSFs to the FF Compendium. Hang in there! 8-)
June 5, 2000
- Don't worry, I haven't been neglecting the site. Small updates are going on all the time, but nothing major. Probably nothing major will happen until a) Hiei sends me some title pics for the high-res site or b) FF9 comes out in Canada, whichever comes first. 8-)
- In the meantime, I've uploaded zip files for MIDIs from FF1, 4, 7, and 8.
May 29, 2000
- A bit more on the MIDI additions and identifications.
May 25, 2000
- Changed my nickname to Cidolfas; hope it doesn't confuse anyone. 8-)
- Added the track listing for FF5: Mambo de Chocobo.
May 21, 2000
- Added pic of Agrias, and the final FF6 MIDI, The Wedding. Also updated the FF6 MIDI zip file to include that MIDI.
- Added the World Map FFMQ MIDI.
- Added mention and a screenshot of the FF SGI demo on the Release Info page.
- Added a few more pics from the FF Anime.
May 16, 2000
- Redid the order of the sections on the main page, as you've no doubt discovered; I hope this one is more logically presented. And yes, it was to facilitate easier navigation on the "high-res" site...
- Added two pics from Anthology: one to the Species section (Hiryuu), and one of Alexander Highwind from 5.
- Had to delete a few FF7 pics; turns out some of the hacks aren't actually from the game, but a collage which just looks like them. 8-) Small misunderstanding there.
- Fixed up the track listing for FF1+2; it was slightly misrepresented.
- Added a Feedback page!
- The current update surge may peter out a bit; I'm going to be working on the layout of the "hi-res" site, and finishing off some stuff for my ToP FAQ. Look for one massive update in a few weeks! *^_^*
May 14, 2000
- Changed the world maps (in the Game Help section) so that the legends are included in the GIF or JPG file. This means you don't have to have the HTML file to view it; you can download the pic and keep it around to help you.
- Uploaded a bunch of FF7 character and monster pics, hacked by Princess Artemis. I'm told there's more coming. *^_^*
- Added a new entry for each game in the Game Innovations section, called Effects On Society; it's a short observation of what each game really added to the RPG market as a whole.
- Added the Rat Tail item, a pic of Griever from FF8 (the lion symbol), and fixed up the Gallery listings so they don't include HTML pages as well. 8-) That was misleading.
- Extremely preliminary work has begun on the hi-res version! I've decided that I want to adhere to the RPGClassics format. The only differences between the old and new versions are: a dark blue, static background instead of white; section links are available as selection forms at the top of the page instead of links or frames; title pics for each major section; and background music for every page. 8-) It'll still take a while to finish; don't wait up. 8-)
May 11, 2000
May 10, 2000
May 8, 2000
- The MIDI gallery has been completed and integrated into the site; about 25 more MIDIs were uploaded as well.
- I've more or less completed the Monster gallery with pictures from FF7 and 8.
May 5, 2000
- Preliminary work on a MIDI collection! The MIDIs are already up and I've added their own gallery in the Galleries page, but I'm also working on linking to the files right from the track listing for their respective CDs. As well, I've got two or three dozen Monster pics I'm going to add soon. It should be done by the end of the weekend.
May 2, 2000
- Well, I'm almost done my ToP FAQ, and as a token update I've added three FF8 soundtrack CDs which have come to my attention, and added the smallest picture I could find: the Mover enemy from FF5. 8-)
April 24, 2000
- I'm proud to announce my joining to the staff of RPGClassics. All the server woes (and their respective banner problems) have been eradicated! Here's to a long and happy partnership! *^_^*
- I'm currently working on a Tales of Phantasia FAQ, which will probably take at least a week or so to finish; after that, I'll try again for the "high-res" site. 8-) School doesn't start again till mid-May; let's see how much I can cram in till then!
April 16, 2000
- Eliminated those annoying banners from the Summon, Monster, FAQ, and Item pages.
- Changed the format of the site a bit; to reflect its "encyclopedic" nature, every page has a relevant dictionary entry from the Oxford Desk Dictionary. 8-)
- I've decided to work on a new, high-res version of the site. With luck and the right programs, it might be done within a few weeks. Keep a lookout!
April 14, 2000
- Added a new Soundtrack section to the Music Gallery (now changed to "Music Info/Gallery), put the Info/Gallery as its own section, and added lyrics to all songs possible (thanks to the Opera House!)
April 5, 2000
- Finally added the lyrics to "Eyes On Me"; you can find them in the Music Gallery.
- Added Moogle FMV pic from the Anthology to the Species page.
April 4, 2000
- Uploaded some very nice FMV shots from FF7 and 8, a few more monster pics, and two more Famous Moments.
- Added FAQ of the American version of FF4 (FF2 in America).
- Added pic of Chocobo from 7 (on Species page)
March 31, 2000:
- Added world maps for every single game to the FAQ page! Well, I actually didn't include MQ (the text FAQ has a decent map) or Tactics (because you can go anywhere without even looking at the map).
- Minor tweaking and fixing of basically the whole site.
- Finally added the Chocobo theme music!
- Added crossover to Seiken Densetsu 3.
- Added art pic of Cara from 5 (thanks Shinryuu!)
- Added monster "Zuu" to Monster page.
March 28, 2000:
- Added a new link.
- Fixed some info on Monsters, Magic, and Misc. Thanks goes to Lou Huang of the FF OSG for his great ideas, the rest of which will be implemented shortly. *^_^*
March 21, 2000:
- Fixed the problem with the FortuneCity galleries (Summon/Monster and Items) by getting a nifty freeware program which automatically creates index pages for galleries.
March 19, 2000:
- Total Tactics update!! Got ahold of a neat little PSX emulator and I grabbed EVERYTHING! Such as:
- Every single character now has a face and body pic!
- All monsters now have pics.
- Tiny little job "icons" have been replaced by full pictures. Also fixed up some Job info.
- Grabbed the Serpentarius Zodiac Stone and all 12 Zodiac symbols from the game.
- Two more "Famous Moments".
- Every single item has been grabbed!
- Grabbed the Zodiac summon.
- Total number of new pics: 275! Whoa!
- While I was at it, added new pics of Aeris and Jessie from FF7. More to come! *^_^*
- Second update! Grabbed some Summon pics from FF7, a pic of Priscilla, and a few monster pics from FF6 and 7.
March 9, 2000:
- Added the "Famous Moments" section; I want your input!
- A few more minor tweaks.
March 8, 2000:
- Added picture counts to the gallery page.
- Added art pics of Tellah and Ashura from 4.
March 5, 2000:
- Uploaded FF6 collages; fixed up FF6 character pages.
- Uploaded a few extra FF6 shots.
- Added a link or two.
March 2, 2000 (well, actually this was from a whole month of slow updates):
- Revamped character pages; the large art pics (which I thought was slowing down loading) have been linked instead of placed directly on the page. The maximum memory size per page has been shrunk to 100K (besides one or two FF8 pages where this wasn't possible). As well, all pages now have a maximum of 8 characters per page. (I've only done minimal updates on the FF6 pages because I'm working on character collages. *^_^*)
- Due to space considerations, the Item and Summon/Monster galleries have been placed on a different server. It's just as fast as the other one, though.
- Added Boss Monster pages.
- Added Gilgamesh's and Exdeath's music themes. Still looking for a good Chocobo theme!
- Added dozens of new screen captures for FF6.
- Added scans of Zodiac Stones.
- Added several face pics from FF Tactics.
- Added screenshot of Aeris from 7.
- Added icons of Jobs from Tactics.
- Added several art pics from FF6.
- Added a few screens from the PSX games for the Innovations section.
- Added a few new links and a new credit link. The Comic seems to be down for good, unfortunately. Finally got the name of the art director for FF Tactics.
- Added advance title pics for FF9 and 11.
- Added a new screenshot in the Misc. Crossovers section.
